Did you know that uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death among trauma patients?  Did you also know, a bleeding person can die from blood loss in as little as 5 minutes?

GotTrigger needs your help to purchase the training materials needed to provide “Stop the Bleed” classes free of charge to any school, church, business, organization or citizen who wants it in the greater Erie, PA area.

Specifically, every $2000 raised will allow six more people per class by allowing us to purchase a trauma kit and a four pack of Wound Cubes. GotTrigger only provides the best training possible in all of our classes. Lecturing how to control bleeding is not effective, only getting your hands in a wound, or twisting a tourniquet will provide the muscle memory training needed when things go bad.

GotTrigger has the trainers and ultimately wants to provide classes of up to 36 students at a time, we just need the equipment.

What is Stop the Bleed?

“Stop the Bleed” is a nationwide campaign to train Americans to be “immediate responders” by recognizing and treating major bleeding in the first minutes after injury.  With effective bleeding control more than 30,000 lives could be saved each year.

30,000 lives a year could be saved? Really?

That number seems large, but yes, it is completely true. Below is a list of recent mass shootings and their toll. While your chances of being caught in a mass shooting remains low, these skills are just as viable for industrial, vehicle, or other kinds of accidents.

  • Santa Fe Texas: 10 killed
  • Sutherland Spring First Baptist Church: 26 killed
  • Sandy Hook: 27 killed
  • Virginia Tech: 32 killed
  • Pulse Night Club: 49 killed
  • The Harvest Music Festival: 58 Killed

How many lives could have been saved if citizens had been trained as “immediate responders” to control bleeding until help could arrive?

The need: Trauma Kits and Wound Cubes

Students need to actually pack wounds and apply tourniquettes to build the muscle memory needed to act in seconds after life threatening injuries occur. “Death by Powerpoint” won’t get the job done, not even close. We evaluated many different products and even some Do-it-yourself solutions. These two pieces of equipment provided the most capability for the price.

Trauma Kit

The Trauma Kit from BleedingControl.org provides the following components packaged in a hard plastic case.

  • Instructional booklets on bleeding control (10)
  • Blue training C-A-T™ tourniquets (5)
  • QuikClot® Moulage Trainers (8)
  • Z-Medica Hemorrhage Control Training™ legs
  • Hard case for transport
  • Protective gloves (12 pairs)

This kit represents the cornerstone of the training package with everything a student needs to learn the basics.

Wound Cube

Wound Cubes by Phokus Research Group are excellent simulators with four realistic wound patterns set into a realistic feeling, semi-transparent silicone cube. These trainers are wet or dry training devices that allow the student to master the basics of stopping the bleed without the mess.

Wound Cubes were designed to increase muscle memory for students learning the basics of bleeding control and allows for repetitive, hands-on practice of packing different sized wounds. The design allows for more effective training in any classroom setting.
